Meet Macy VanArnam

Macy VanArnam, Class of 2017, was an RMED student in her hometown, Ogdensburg. She matched in Obstetrics-Gynecology at Abington Memorial Hospital in Pennsylvania.

Macy can pinpoint the exact moment she knew she wanted to be an obstetrician.

As a high school senior in Morristown, St. Lawrence County, Macy signed up for an Allied Health shadowing program at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg.

“I was a lost puppy out in the hallway and one of the OBs (Andrew Ogden, DO) came out and said, ‘We have a C-section. Let’s go!”’ Macy said. “I watched the birth and immediately started crying … ‘How did I not know this is what I want to do with my life?’

“There was this brand new human that came into the world and I saw him take his first breath,” she said. “It was a spiritual, moving experience.”
