Regional Anesthesia

Department of Anesthesia provides regional anesthesia services for a variety of complex surgical cases for perioperative pain management. We have a dedicated regional anesthesia team comprised of board-certified faculty members and residents who perform peripheral nerve blocks and neuraxial analgesia for perioperative pain control. The service is academic based with a strong emphasis on teaching basic principles of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia to rotating anesthesia residents. The procedures are performed in an exclusive block room fully equipped to provide safe regional anesthesia. 

We rely heavily on ultrasound-guided continuous nerve block catheters for prolonged acute pain management in patients recovering from major surgery or trauma. A continuous infusion of local anesthetic is then delivered through these nerve block catheters using an infusion pump for a total of 3-5 days. The ambulatory surgery patients are discharged home with portable infusion pumps and daily follow-up is done by dedicated team members.

• Thoracic epidural catheters 
• Lumbar epidural catheters 
• Paravertebral blocks 
• Brachial plexus blocks (Interscalene, Supraclavicular, Infraclavicular and Axillary blocks) 
• Femoral Nerve block 
• Adductor Canal and Saphenous nerve block 
• Sciatic Nerve block 
• Ankle Block 
• Infiltrative Truncal blocks (TAP, quadratus lumborum, PEC, Serratus anterior and Erector Spinae)
